The heart of it all
Leading worship at Lavon Drive Baptist Church has been an amazing journey, and I have loved watching our congregation grow in freedom, authenticity, and passion over the years. Feel free to use the YouTube / Facebook links below to check out our worship service live streams, or peruse the sampling below.
I love jazz and am an avid sax player. While I don’t play the sax often in church, here a few samples of my playing. The first was shot in our gym while our worship center was being renovated. The second is from 2015 when we did an entire concert of fun, jazz arrangements of hymns, written by our pianist who is a Dove-award nominated composer (forgive the video quality – this was the earliest days of our video ministry…).
Telling a story
I have been passionate about video for decades, and one of the areas I have been proud to develop at Lavon Drive is our video production ministry. Below are some of my favorite videos I’ve personally produced in the last couple of years. For reference, I did the editing on all these and the videography on most.
One of my passions is to share with our Texan congregation the wonders of my home state of Colorado. We have hosted Winter Camp in Westcliffe and Buena Vista for the past 10 years, and below are the highlights from the March, 2023 trip to Spring Canyon Conference Center in Buena Vista.
Filmed entirely on a cinematic FPV drone, with all audio captured independently and added in post-production. This unique style of film is typically captured all in one take, but due to school schedules, we had to break the shoot up over three days and then strategically stitch clips together to make it seem as seamless as possible. I piloted and edited the project.
This video also shares about the vision of the church I’ve served for 15 years. My team created a huge lighting project to celebrate the 188 people who made decisions for Christ in 2021. The lights are synchronized with film and shown to kick off our annual missions conference. I produced the video, led the creative team on the concept, and designed the specialized electronics that were needed to control so many lights.
Awaken Coffee House supported a ministry called Deeply Rooted Grounds (DRG) from December 2020 – February 2022. In November 2022, I led a trip with 15 Lavon Drive church members to serve in Nicaragua with the DRG team, and it was life-changing. For political reasons, we could not bring in professional film equipment, so everything had to be shot on a GoPro. A different look, but a powerful story of God’s hand at work!
Deeply Rooted Grounds has been raising funds to purchase this defunct family water aquatic center as their new home base for operations. I shot this FPV drone video while on our trip, added sound, and DRG used it along with our mission trip highlight video to share the vision for their ministry and subsequently raise around $300,000 to complete the fundraising needed to purchase the property. They closed on it in March, 2023!
Our campus explodes with Christmas lights each year, and this FPV drone shot captures the essence of the action! The drone does not record audio, so all the sound is designed and added in post-production.
While our Senior Pastor has served that role since 2016, he has been on our staff since 1997. I produced this video on the occasion of his 25th Anniversary at the church
Awaken Coffee House was one of my major projects during the renovation, and we are thrilled to have been blessed with a great team, great product, and a successful ministry. 100% of proceeds go to missions, and we’ve generated over $290,000 in revenue in just the first 2.5 years since we opened!
I’ve been privileged to be invited to the Fellowship of Christian Airline Personnel’s Austria Ski Adventure for the past five years, filming and leading music. The following videos were produced for the 2023 Adventure, in Schladming, Austria.
At Lavon Drive, we are passionate about reaching kids. The full Pastoral team gets involved in our biggest children’s ministry events, namely Junior Camp and Vacation Bible School.
I’ve served as an officer with the Singing Men of Texas since 2010, as President and currently as webmaster and video coordinator. Nearly 200 men from around north central Texas meet monthly to present concerts in local churches, and every two years we travel abroad in partnership with evangelists to share the gospel. For 10 years, we’ve been traveling to Ukraine, Poland, and Hungary, and God has allowed us to see over 34,000 people make commitments to follow Christ.
opening the word
I am grateful that my pastor has allowed me the opportunity to grow as a preacher. I love to teach, it is one of my chief spiritual gifts, and because we have such a great music team at Lavon Drive, from time to time I am able hand of the music tasks to others and take pulpit duties.
This message in particular highlights some of my philosophy of music, as well as being an example of my preaching capabilities.
